Sting

Nome d'arte del musicista e cantante rock Matthew Gordon Sumner (n. Wallsend 1951). Dopo aver raggiunto il successo internazionale col trio Police, fondato nel 1976 e rapidamente passato da un tardo punk a un rock più sofisticato (Roxanne, Every breath you take), S. si è poi affermato come uno dei più stimati cantautori internazionali, dando vita ad album che mescolano rock, jazz e folclore in una sintesi di intensa suggestione: The Dream of the Blue Turtles, 1985; Nothing like the sun, 1987; Ten summoner's tales, 1993; Fields of gold, 1994; Mercury falling, 1996; Brand new day, 1999; ... All this time, 2001; Sacred love, 2003; Songs from the labyrinth, 2006, in cui ha rivisitato la produzione musicale del liutista J. Dowland; If on a winter's night, 2009; Symphonicities, 2010; l'album doppio The best of 25 years, 2011; The last ship (2013); 57th & 9th (2016); My songs (2019); Duets (2020). È anche apparso in numerosi film, fra i quali si possono ricordare: Quadrophenia, 1979; Dune, 1984; Stormy Monday, 1989; The Grotesque, 1995. Nel 2003 ha pubblicato l'autobiografia Broken music.
