Brown, Thomas

Filosofo scozzese (Kirkmabreck 1778 - Londra 1820). Allievo, poi successore (1810) di Dugald Stewart all’univ. di Edimburgo, si venne progressivamente allontanando dalle posizioni del suo maestro per accostarsi a quelle di Hume, che difese nella sua opera più importante, le Observations on the nature and tendency of the doctrine of Mr. Hume concerning the relation of cause and effect (1804), riveduta e ristampata nel 1818 col titolo An inquiry into the relation of cause and effect. Espose la sua dottrina nelle Lectures on the philosophy of the human mind (post., 1820).
