Usher, Abbot Payson

Economista (Lynn, Massachusetts, 1884 - Boston 1984), prof. di storia economica d'Europa alla Harvard University (1936-49). Autore di ricerche nelle quali l'indagine storica si intreccia, in un approccio interdisciplinare, all'analisi statistica e teorica (The history of the grain trade in France, 1400-1710, 1913; An introduction to the industrial history of England, 1920; The application of quantitative method to economic history, 1932; The early history of deposit banking in Mediterranean Europe, 1943), deve la sua fama soprattutto all'opera pubblicata nel 1929, A history of mechanical invention, che anticipa le teorie del progresso tecnologico endogeno di J. Schmookler, E. Mansfield, R. R. Nelson e N. Rosenberg.
