De Havilland, Olivia

Attrice statunitense (Tokyo 1916 - Parigi 2020), sorella di Joan Fontaine. Esordì sulle scene sostituendo Gloria Stuart in A midsummer night's dream diretto da M. Reinhardt, che la volle poi nel film omonimo (1935). Impegnata in seguito in ruoli romantici e ingenui (Captain Blood, 1935; The charge of the light brigade, La carica dei 600, 1936; Anthony Adverse, L'avorio nero, 1936; The adventures of Robin Hood, 1938), poté spezzare gli schemi fino allora imposti rivelando il suo notevole temperamento drammatico con Gone with the wind (Via col vento, 1939). Tra i molti altri film interpretati ricordiamo: To each his own (A ciascuno il suo destino, 1946) che le valse l'Oscar; The dark mirror (1946); The snake pit (1949); The heiress (1949), il secondo Oscar; My cousin Rachel (1953); Not as a stranger (Nessuno resta solo, 1955); Light in the Piazza (1961); Hush ... hush, sweet Charlotte (1965); Pope Joan (1972): Airport '77 (1977); The Swarm (1978).
